TenneT welcomes the decision of the EU Commission on electricity trading at the German-Danish border

Downloads & Contact
  • The trading capacity for the market is to be increased step by step between Germany and Western Denmark
  • The decision is a sound interim solution until the new legal framework for European electricity trading will go into force
  • Implementation will start in January 2019

Today the transmission system operator TenneT welcomed the decision of the European Commission to gradually increase the trading capacity available to the market between Germany and Western Denmark. The decision is based on proposals made by the transmission system operator in the context of a competition procedure. Among other things, TenneT had proposed to extend the coordinated trading program, which has been gradually increasing the trading capacity available between Germany and Western Denmark since the middle of last year. TenneT will start implementing the EU Commission’s decision in cooperation with the Danish transmission system operator Energinet in January 2019. From TenneT's point of view, the decision of the EU Commission provides a sound interim solution pending the new regulatory framework for European electricity trading.
