TenneT purchases 150 kV electricity grid in Utrecht province from Stedin

Arnhem/Rotterdam, The Netherlands, 17 November 2015 – Following the transfer of ownership of Stedin’s 150 kV electricity grid in South Holland province to TenneT as of 1 January 2015, ownership of the 150 kV grid in Utrecht province has now also been transferred from Stedin to TenneT. As the national Transmission System Operator (TSO), TenneT is responsible by law for high-voltage lines and cables at this voltage level. Stedin has sold its grids to TenneT, with the transfer of ownership taking place on 17 November 2015.

The Independent Grid Administration Act (Wet Onafhankelijk Netbeheer, WON) stipulates that high-voltage grids (i.e. grids with a voltage level of 110 kV or higher) must be owned by TenneT. In the past, Stedin would only have been able to transfer the submanagement of these grids. Previously, the grids were covered by so-called Cross-Border Lease (CBL) arrangements. These lease arrangements have recently been terminated which enabled the sale of the grids.
