Study outcome congested area North Netherlands

Current contracted and available transport capacity

The total contracted transport capacity in the congested area sums up to 6340 MW. The total available transport capacity is approximately 5000 MW, taking into account operational security limits.

Study outcome

Currently congestion management is not an adequate solution to solve the network congestion in North Netherlands. Things that have emerged in the study concern the limited number of potential participants in the region that can effectively contribute to congestion management and the restrictions that apply for the time period for which congestion management is to be applied.  Furthermore two other recent developments have been taken into account. First is the fact that a temporary connection between the 380 kV stations Eemshaven Oudeschip and Eemshaven has come into operation resulting in a significantly increase of the available transport capacity. Secondly, the occurrence of network congestion during the current winter period has decreased compared to previous years. In case of network congestion the current operational processes will be applied to mitigate such congestion.
