Our grid

TenneT manages the high-voltage grid in the Netherlands and large parts of Germany. TenneT transmits electricity at 110,000 volts (110 kV) and higher. With around 24,500 kilometres of high-voltage lines, we cross borders and connect countries.

First information about BorWin6


In 2027, BorWin6, another grid connection for offshore wind farms in the German North Sea, is scheduled for completion. BorWin6 will transmit a capacity of 930 megawatts. The 235 kilometres of line are divided into about 190 kilometres of sea cables and 45 kilometres of land cables. The wind power produced at sea will be converted into direct current at a converter station built by TenneT, transported on land and converted back into three-phase current at a land-based converter in Büttel (Schleswig-Holstein) and fed into the extra-high voltage grid.

BorWin6 is being realised with the innovative 66-kV direct connection, whereby the wind turbines are connected directly to TenneT's offshore platform via 66-kilovolt three-phase cables. This means that a separate wind farm transformer station is no longer required.
