We are primarily tasked with providing power transmission services, system services and facilitating the energy market. Our core tasks follow from our appointment as grid operator under the Dutch 'Elektriciteitswet' (E-wet) and the German 'Energiewirtschaftsgesetz' (EnWG).

Our key tasks

Our grid
TenneT manages the high-voltage grid in the Netherlands and large parts of Germany. TenneT transmits electricity at 110,000 volts (110 kV) and higher. With around 24,500 kilometres of high-voltage lines, we cross borders and connect countries.
Offshore Outlook 2050
Already by 2030, the originally planned capacity of 15 gigawatts of offshore wind energy will increase to 20 GW.

Electricity market
The energy sector is developing rapidly. The process of European market integration began some years ago. Its purpose is to create a single European market that enables market parties to trade gas and electricity across national borders easily and efficiently.

Transparency data
We provide transparency data on our operations on our Dutch and German transparency page and on ENTSO-E.

E-Insights
Our vision is to be one of the most transparent Transmission System Operators (TSO) in Europe and thereby creating value for society. In this Energy Insights section we present selected energy related topics and show data, information and valuable insights.

Company
TenneT is a leading European electricity transmission system operator (TSO), with activities in the Netherlands and in Germany. We strive to ensure a reliable and uninterrupted supply of electricity in our high-voltage grid for some 42 million people.

Meet usTariffs
The TenneT tariffs exist of two components: the connection and transport tariffs.
Tariffs in the Netherlands
Parties connected to the national grid in the Netherlands (regional grid administrators, producers and consumers) pay a connection fee to TenneT. This covers the costs associated with the installation, maintenance and replacement of a connection to the grid.
Connection tariffs
The connection tariff comprises two components:
- initial connection tariff
- periodic connection tariff
Initial connection tariff
The initial connection tariff covers the costs of creating the grid connection. It varies as connections to the high-voltage grid are tailor made.
Periodic connection tariff
The periodic connection tariff covers the costs of maintaining and, if necessary, replacing the connection. Parties with multiple connections receive a separate invoice for each one. The periodic connection tariff is a fixed amount that is updated once a year.
Transmission services tariffs
Every party that is connected to the national high ?voltage grid (regional grid administrator, producer or large industrial consumer) pays TenneT a transmission tariff for each connection it uses. The transmission tariff covers the costs of the transmission service.
Types of transmission tariffs
There are two types of transmission tariffs:
- the non-transmission-related consumer tariff (in Dutch: TOVT);
- the transmission-related consumer tariff (in Dutch: TAVT).
Non-transmission-related consumer tariff (in Dutch: TOVT)
The TOVT tariff covers the costs that are not directly related to the transmission of electricity. These are, for example, the costs of the administrative processing of metering data, the administration of the register of connections, and the billing costs.
Transmission-related consumer tariff (in Dutch: TAVT)
The TAVT tariff covers the costs of the transmission of electricity. This tariff consists of a unit price per kilowatt (kW). Depending on the number of hours during which the connected party uses the transmission grid (= operating time), a higher or lower tariff will apply.
TenneT charges the TAVT tariff to large industrial consumers and regional grid administrators directly connected to the Dutch high-voltage grid.
Tariff decisions
The transmission-related consumer tariff (TOVT) and the non-transmission-related consumer tariff (TAVT) are listed in the Tariff decisions below.
