TenneT awards Boskalis consortium Hollandse Kust West Beta export cabling contract

Downloads & Contact

Boskalis has been awarded the Hollandse Kust West Beta export cable contract by TenneT, in consortium with Orient Cables (NBO). The contract scope comprises the installation of two 65-kilometer-long export cables that will connect the planned Hollandse Kust West Beta 700 MW offshore wind farm to TenneT’s onshore grid in the Netherlands.

‎Furthermore, Boskalis will install a 9-kilometer-long 66kV interconnector cable between the Hollandse Kust West Alpha and Hollandse Kust West Beta offshore substations. Boskalis will execute this contract in consortium with its partner NBO that will design and supply the high-voltage cable system. The two 220kV AC cable circuits will come ashore near the existing onshore high voltage substation at Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands.

Integrated solution

For this project Boskalis will deliver integrated solutions and in-house services for cable production, beach and seabed preparation works and the lay and burial of the cables. The Hollandse Kust West Beta offshore windfarm is expected to enter service in 2025.

NOx reduction

As a novelty, TenneT allowed the parties to this tender to specifically manage the reduction of nitrogen emissions (NOx) during the work. In the tender process bidders had to include a calculation model how their installation method would remain below the NOx emissions threshold.

Next step in sustainable energy supply

This contract means a continued collaboration between TenneT and Boskalis in the North Sea. Marco Kuijpers, Director Large Projects Offshore TenneT: "Due to previous experience in the installation of the sea cables for the Borssele offshore wind farm, we are looking forward to this new cooperation with Boskalis for Hollandse Kust west Beta. The connection of this future offshore wind farm is the next important step towards a sustainable energy supply."
