We are primarily tasked with providing power transmission services, system services and facilitating the energy market. Our core tasks follow from our appointment as grid operator under the Dutch 'Elektriciteitswet' (E-wet) and the German 'Energiewirtschaftsgesetz' (EnWG).

Our grid
TenneT manages the high-voltage grid in the Netherlands and large parts of Germany. TenneT transmits electricity at 110,000 volts (110 kV) and higher. With around 24,500 kilometres of high-voltage lines, we cross borders and connect countries.
Offshore Outlook 2050
Already by 2030, the originally planned capacity of 15 gigawatts of offshore wind energy will increase to 20 GW.

Electricity market
The energy sector is developing rapidly. The process of European market integration began some years ago. Its purpose is to create a single European market that enables market parties to trade gas and electricity across national borders easily and efficiently.

Transparency data
We provide transparency data on our operations on our Dutch and German transparency page and on ENTSO-E.

We are TenneT
Meet usStakeholders
For TenneT, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), is to create a sustainable future for all our internal and external stakeholders, since it stands for the social responsible business practices of a company balancing people, planet and profit.
Transparent communication and constructive dialogue
As an organisation with a key role in securing the supply of electricity in the markets we serve, it is vital for us to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, taking into account their questions, concerns and needs. This is particularly the case where our infrastructure projects affect the interests of local communities. We make information easily accessible to our stakeholders, take their concerns very seriously and engage ourselves in minimising any negative consequences of our activities.
Stakeholder groups
Next to local communities, we identify the following stakeholder groups:
- Our shareholder
- Government, political parties, regulatory bodies
- Local Communities
- Financial investors and rating agencies
- NGOs
- Employees
- Customers
- Other European TSOs
- Media
- Suppliers
Transparent communication is crucial in stakeholder dialogue. TenneT aims to be among the best in class when it comes to CSR performance and transparent reporting to our stakeholders. We were very encouraged to see this recognised in much higher scores in transparency rankings (2013: 101; 2014: 30) compiled by Transparency Benchmark and sustainable rating agencies such as Oekom,Vigeo and Sustainalytics following the publication of our integrated annual report 2013. We are using these scores and analyses to identify further opportunities for improvement.
CSR benchmarks
- oekom rating: Prime. Sustainalytics and Vigeo: top 25%.
- Transparancy Benchmark: place 22.
